Well since you can burn data with the internal drive and audio with the external drive it looks like it is more an issue with that particular internal drive then VMware Workstation per se. Not trying to say it is on no why a VMware issue however since you obviously have the software on the Host and it works from the Host as well, why don't you just use the Host for such functions!
